The students in 103 learned about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Students designed and created their own balloon floats...and then had a parade!

3rd graders are working on STEM activities in Library.

5th graders reviewed using prepositional words and phrases in their writing and incorporated an element of drama using tableau.

Second graders used their Body Smarts and Art Smarts to build 3D shapes to help better understand vertices and edges. The marshmallows represent the vertices and the toothpicks represent the edges of the 3D shape.

Please join us for our All School Art Show on Thursday, November 30th from 6-7pm.
Every EFA+ student will have art on display!

103 recently finished their life science unit. Then they presented their aquarium exhibits and models. Their models showed how animals use structures to defend themselves from predators.

The students in CLC (our EFA+ after school program in conjunction with The Boys & Girls Club) performed a play called, The Twelve Dancing Princesses.
The EFA+ CLC students were the performers and the director, Mr. Will is a former EFA+ student.

Students in 201 have been learning to tell time on analog clocks. They were presented with a challenge to work as a group to build a clock using the following materials: numbers 1-12, minute hand, hour hand, and 60 cubes (12 colors—5 cubes of each color).
They went through the process of creating & presenting why they built their clocks they way they did.
Then they were given another challenge. To use the cubes to represent something specific on the clock. They needed to observe the analog clocks in the classroom & noticed the small lines that went around the clock.
With small group and whole group discussions they were able to determine the 60 lines around the clock represent minutes & the numbers on the clock represent hours.
The students were able to work together to figure out that the 5 cubes of each color represent the 5 lines from each number around the clock. This helped them understand why we count by fives when telling time on an analog clock. They did a wonderful job working collaboratively and had great discussions.
While their goal is to be able to write and tell time to the nearest 5 minutes, many have began to understand telling time to the minute!

Intermediate students enjoyed mixing and mingling in this partner dance called, “Sasha”. They also learned how to count to 3 in Russian singing, “raz, dva, tre!”

Second graders have been learning about plant systems in science.
Thanks to Mrs. Weber EFA+ has an amazing nature area for students to experience plants close up.
During their visit to the Nature Gallery, students observed the different types of leaves plants can have!

Planning Ahead! If your current 5th grader is involved in Gifted Education at their SFSD Elementary, join us tonight from 6-7pm at Patrick Henry Middle School to learn more about the Middle School Honors Program!

Happy Veterans Day!

A+ learning is a life long endeavor! Each year Mrs. Laura leads a staff chorus that performs at the 4th and 5th grade concert. This year the staff chorus will feature soloists.

2nd graders read “Bink & Gollie”, then they acted out the problems and solutions from the story.

4th graders have been having fun learning about complete circuits with Makey Makey in Library.

Second graders used their Body Smarts and Art Smarts to build 3D shapes to help better understand vertices and edges.
The marshmallows represent vertices and the toothpicks represent the edges of the 3D shape.

We had a wonderful time celebrating reaching our Fun Run goal with magician, Travis Nye.

First graders in 102 perform their Tableaus for Making Meaning.
Their goal was to showcase 5 different scenes from the book ‘When the Cousins Came!’
