Friday, September 30th, 2022, is Orange shirt day which began in Canada in 2013. It promotes awareness about the history of American Indian and Native Residential boarding school systems, which still impact Native American and First Nations communities in the United States and Canada. The day honors the children who were removed from their families and forced into boarding schools and remembers those who never returned home.
Student Council elections are wrapping up at Patrick Henry this week. Winners will be announced this Friday!

Last year today, we lost Owen Turner, a student who was a friend to everyone he met.
Thank you to Gibson Memorial of Sioux Falls and Patrick Henry Student Council for helping us honor all of the students we have lost. Also, thank you to Karyn Veenis for maintaining the garden and creating the space where Owen can always be a part of our school.

Mr. Bakken visited 6th grade orchestra today! He is the composer of Big Foot, which we will play at our District Orchestra Festival on November 8th at the Arena. The concert will feature over 1,000 orchestra students from all of the SFSD middle and high schools!

Communities are transformed by great leaders with big hearts. Did you know that 99% of coaches agreed that coaching Heart & Sole (H&S) was a valuable experience? All you need is a compassion for helping others, availability to meet one a week for 2 hours and a desire to see the next generation achieve their dreams! You do not have to be a runner to coach. Contribute to the H&S mission this season by coaching at Patrick Henry Middle School. Fall 2022 season starts September 6 – November 15, Tuesdays from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Today, the City of Sioux Falls and Sioux Area Metro pulled up at Roosevelt High School to explain the public transit "Kids Ride Free Initiative." As the city works to increase ridership and build future transit users, children can ride SAM buses with a School ID/Freedom Pass.
